Food & Lodging
Your down-home Western wedding is over and now its time to treat
your friends and family to some good old-fashion hospitality and
thank ‘em right properly for sharing this special day with
you. There’s no better way to say a big “Howdy Thanks!”
than a country-style Bar-B-Q.
For a touch of Old West class the bride and groom should
arrive in a horse drawn carriage.
If possible your guests should arrive at the reception in horse
drawn wagons and the bride and groom should arrive in a horse drawn
carriage. Friends and gusts may be provided with dinner triangles
or cow bells to ring during the arrival of the bride and groom and
to ring before speeches and toasts throughout the reception.
For a true Old West meal you’ll want hickory and
mesquite smoked Bar-B-Q.
An outdoor open-pit Bar-B-Q, filled with plenty of mesquite and
hickory chips is the traditional way to fix up a mouth-watering
feast that everyone will be talking about for years to come. If
that’s not possible, a few kettle Bar-B-Qs or propane models
can also do the job.
Thick steaks and corn bread dripping with honey and butter.
If you’re wanting to fix you guests a traditional down-home
Western meal you might start with plenty of corn on the cob, thick
steaks, honey-drenched ribs, pork chops, lamb, hamburgers, potatoes,
corn bread dripping with butter and honey, cole slaw, potato salad,
refried beans, plenty of hot salsa, ice cold beer served in bottles,
and a whole heap of mashed potatoes and good country gravy.
Be sure to hire someone to teach your guests a few good
line dance steps and square dance moves.
If possible your reception should be held inside a barn with hay
bales for seating and plenty of room for square dancing and line
dancing. A live blue grass or country band would add a nice touch
and be sure to have a professional coach who can teach your guests
a few good square dance moves and line dance steps.
Above all, have FUN. Both you and your guests should be having
the foot-stompin’est time of your lives.
The perfect ending for a perfect Western wedding.
Lodgings should be somewhat rustic in appearance, at least from
the outside. A log cabin lodge or mountain retreat might add the
perfect touch. Most guests as well as the wedding couple would probably
appreciate an all modern interior, at least as far as plumbing is
concerned. However, old fashioned lanterns for lighting and lace
curtains on the windows and a lace canopy covering the old-fashioned
four poster bed can add a wonderfully romantic and nostalgic touch
and provide the perfect ending to a perfect Western wedding day.
